The book requires however previous knowledge in the field, we oursleves had difficulty in finding our way in the text first. Aziz is YehudaÂs choice for the establishment of Islam studies at CEU. The reprint of this old book lent itself as an easy start. The agreement was to make cheap paperback for sutdents  Aziz claims great interest from the student market but earlier editions are all out of print.
Through miscommunication we followed the usual track and prepared the HB when Aziz cried out. Now we explained that it is especially due to our US market that we must first come out with HB. In January we ship a small number of HB indeed and put PB in the autumn catalogue. Nevertheless PB will be on sale at CEU from spring. Aziz was a bit uneasy about the cover, too frivolous, but the man is indeed Ibn Khaldun. From the Author Since this book was published almost exactly twenty years ago, it has gone through one original hardback edition and two paperback editions, and still appears to be in demand at an easy but sure pace.
This was itself sufficient ground for a publisher to wish to bring out a new impression. As a new impression rather than a new edition, I have changed very little in the text as originally published, and have not tampered with it, but made only slight emendations here and there, mainly by way of correcting typographical errors and making very slight additions to the endnotes.
I have also appended an addendum to the Bibliographical Orientations at the end of the book in which I take note of some work published since. Aziz Al-Azmeh.
